stratagem (n)- a plan or scheme, especially one used to outwit an opponent or achieve an end

Part 2:

What is wrong with the following in text citations, and how do we fix them?

2. Dorothea is clearly an unusual woman, and Eliot emphasizes "her love of extremes, and her insistence on regulating life according to notions which might cause a wary man to hesitate before he made her an offer, or even might lead her at last to refuse all offers" (5).

    Part 2:

    1. This citation needs to include the last name of the author who wrote the material that is being presented. In addition, if the quote comes from an outside source that is embedded within the primary source from quick it is taken, then the person who originally said it needs to be given credit in the citation as well. This is where "qtd. in" needs to be used in the citation.

    2. Once again, the last name of the author needs to be provided in the citation. If an author's name is not available, then a shorthand version of the title should be provided. In this case, the person who said the quote does not to receive credit within the citation because credit is already granted in the passage when it says, "...and Eliot emphasizes..." However, an in-text citation with simply the page number and no other information is incorrect, due to the fact that it would not be easy for readers to locate the source of the information in a works cited page.
